Serena Jameka Williams is an American professional tennis player. She is born 26 September 1981 in Saginaw, Michigan, U. S. She has been ranked singles world no 1 by the Women’s Tennis Association for 39 weeks including a joint record 186 consecutive weeks and finished as the year end No. 1 in five times.
She has also won 23 Grand Slam singles titles the most by any player in the Open Era and the second most all the time.
She won her first major singles title at the US Open in 1999. She also won 14 major women’s double titles. She has won four Olympic gold medals. She is a sports person woman.
Serena Williams Announces For Retirement From Tennis
One of the most prominent American athletes is ready to retire. Tennis legend Serena Williams announced for retirement she said Tuesday in the latest news.
She said ” Its the hardest thing that I could ever imagine. I don’t want it to be over but at the same time I am ready for what’s next.”
According to the Instagram post she said I am gonna relish these next few weeks insinuating that the US Open which begins on August 29 will be her last tournament.
The tennis legend also said
“Unfortunately I was not ready to win Wimbledon this year Williams told Vogue. And I don’t know if I will be ready to win New York the US Open. But I’m going to try. And the lead up tournaments will be fun.”
Major Reason Behind Her Announcement
The major reason behind her decision to wind down her career now is that she wants to have another child.
She said “If I have to choose between building my tennis résumé and building my family, I choose the latter.”
Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, have a five year old daughter, Olympia, together and plan on growing their family soon.
A legendary tennis star also said that in the last year Alexis and I have been trying to another child and we recently got some information from my doctor that put my mind at ease and made me feel that whenever we are ready we can add to our family, Williams said I definitely don’t want to be pregnant again as an athlete.
